Give me the damn epidural!

Hey All,

Doug Hankins will be hosting Hold ‘Em at his house next Friday, December 12th. He’s inviting some guys from work, a couple friends, and anyone from the HG. In the event that Sarah is yelling, "Give me the damn epidural!," then poker is cancelled.

What: Poker at Doug’s, $5 buy-in

When: Fri, December 12th at 7:30 P.M.

Where: 3081 Park Lane Avenue, 43231 (A mile south of Rue’s off Route 3 - Westerville Road) ph. 475-1902

RSVP: Please reply to RueHomechurch@yahoogroups.com if you think you will be joining the Poker Partay.

What’s needed: BYOB. Doug will need poker chips. He may need cards, too. He could use a card table and chairs.

Whether I am available to play or not, I can provide a table some chairs. I figure that, whether he plays or not, JRue can provide the chip set. JRue also has some stackable white plastic chairs. I’ve added the event to the Calendar and Blog.

Words and Deeds

This morning at central teaching, Gary Delashmutt continued the series on the book of Acts and the subject was Words and Deeds. Through the first few chapters of Acts, Gary revealed a pattern: Word + Deeds together bringing wide spread social favor among the people and then many people becoming followers of Christ.

Coincidentaly, tonight on The Simpsons, Homer and Ned were bounty hunters. During a stakeout Homer wanted to listen to AC/DC, but Ned prefered the Christian cover band, AD/BC, whereby Ned and Homer both began singing, "Kindly deeds, done for free." Tommy and I were cracking up.

I thought that the timing of all this was was a good carry over from our home group discussion on Wednesday. Here are some bullet points from this morning that I changed to questions:

Are we being "lights" at work and in our neighborhood?
Are we using our gifts of service & mercy to help those outside of our church?
Are we volunteering in community service & civiv organizations?
Are we developing needed community service ministires? And,
Are we doing home group service projects?

Good questions to think about and discuss in two weeks.

Welcome to the Rue HG blog!

What a fun meeting we had on Wednesday! Our continuing series on Gaining Vision for Your Great Life Work presented us with three questions about the structure of our home group:

1 What do we want to KEEP doing?
2 What do we want to STOP doing, or do LESS of?
3 What do we wish we'd START doing or do MORE of?

There was a lot of energy in the small discussion groups and it carried over into the rest of the evening. Most of the comments were related to doing MORE and there seemed to be a consensus on creating a vision for a service project as well finding other ways to to get together either casually or for study/prayer. We reached into the bag and pulled out some past events like camping, retreats, "wing-it" nights as well as some new ideas like Sunday brunch and sharing at the start of our meetings. I was so inspired by Paul's thoughts on a blog that I started typing.

So, here it is, the Rue home church blog. Send me your ideas and comments and I'll post them. I'm new to this, but welcome your feedback and posts. I have a history of starting and not finishing, so maybe Paul will teach me how to grant editor access to others? I don't want this to be like the phone list that I published then never updated.

Please send me your ideas for service projects and for events and I'll post the lists.
